Whenever a new patient wants to go on an insulin pump there always told to go and speak to someone who is already on one and have had it a while. The first few things I say are crucial not because I want to put them off but because they need to be prepared for all those awkward embarrassing moments. So this is what I tell them for the first few weeks at least and probably for the rest of there lives you will do all of these.
1. Watch for door handles they are lethal there great for grabbing you at every oppotunity
2. If your pump is attached to your trousers when you go to the toilet never just drop your trousers it will do the lethat and painful bungee cord affect (and it hurts)
3. Never put your ear phones and pump in the same pocket unless you want spaghetti junction
4. Night times are always good fun mine loves getting ravelled up sometimes it even ties me up, it likes to dig into every bone possible just to let you know there still there
4. Awkward timing you can always predict it going off in the quietest of moments like meetings or in a queue ect but just don't giggle when it vibrates specially if it's in the same place of mine ssh!!
5. They are very demanding drama queens the battery will always need changing in the middle of the night, your reservoir will never need changing the same time your cannula is due and if you end up ripping it out in the middle of the night (like me) then there's nothing worse then having to puncture another needle into you specially at 3am
6. Bedtime antics (wink, wink) you can find that one out for yourself.......

Social networks
I've been on Facebook for a few years now its great for staying in touch with friends and family. But when it comes to needing an answer for a question twitter is so much better I have so many good and random friends on twitter that I probably would never have known about if it wasent for social networking. Most of my followers are diabetics and if I have a health question I know someone will know the answer I imagine its the same with any other questions you may have if your interests are the same. Social networking has a lot of positives and also negatives like cyber bullying and embarrasing photos you wish hadent been plasterd all over facebook. I don't dare find out how many times a day i log in to both social groups I'm pretty sure it's not healthy but what else can I do while I'm dying of Bordem ooh look someone's tweeted me?

Diabetes burnout
I'm sure I'm like most diabetics that I tend to get bored of checking my blood sugar and carbohydrate counting its like a faze I go through. Sometimes I'm brilliant at it and sometimes I just wanna scream at my blood machine for telling me my blood sugar is high when I've not eaten anything. Apparently it's called diabetes burnout and its extremely common amongst all type 1s i just thought it was depression? When i get it its often eating time every time I eat its a chore and sometimes I think it would be so much easier not to eat at all surely my blood sugars will be stable then? Wrong! I forgot to add that one biscuit I ate 2 hours ago (bitch blood machine knows everything!) I don't know if there's something you can do to stop yourself getting diabetes burnout maybe it's just part of life and the illness itself or if its just a quick reminder that i have it 24hrs a day 365 days a year no holidays! And that you just need a good kick up the bum and to sort yourself out but luckily today is a good day! :) Right where's the biscuits?! Yes pump I can hear you (don't forget to bolus, bolus, bolus.....

Decisions
I absolutely hate making decisions probably because I'm a worrier and far to polite to say no! I think this sometimes gets me into trouble and lead astray so easily don't get me wrong i can make decisions then worry like mad to the build up of saying it. I know wrong from right obviously was brought up and not dragged up but sometimes think its down to having to grow up to fast most 12 year olds were still playing with toys while I was playing with needles and syringes (im not an addict honestly). I over think a lot any thing any one says or does to me is analysed in my little brain and I remember everything! I sometimes try to forget things but can't then panic I must have forgotten something. I think I also have OCD when it somes to locks so many times I have gone back to someone's house because I thought I hadn't locked it properly even tho the 1 brain cell in my head says (yes you did lock the door oh and look its locked twat!) that's my garbage blog for today because that's how I roll.......
